Even though we all hear about the small Nordic country of Finland not everyone really understands what it is like to live here as a foreigner.
My name is Steven Jackson and I have been living in Finland for about 25 years with my wife Anja. We live in a small village called Elimäki or lets say we live about 9 km from the village of Elimäki in a place called Soiniitty.
The is not much in Soiniitty, just a few farm houses. Originally the properties in the area were build by refugees who had escaped from the Russians during the aftermath of the winter war as a payment for defending themselves.
The home that were built with a big family in mind so they were made with a single skinned wall so rooms inside could have been added on later. Below is a typical example of a 1940's Finnish country house.
