The winter war was a difficult time in Finnish history because they needed to defend themselves against one of the most powerful nations in the world at that time. As an example how bad it was, a friend of mines grandfather was studying at the time in university to become an engineer. There was 30 students in his class, all recruited into the army and he was the only one to return.
In addition, if you have a chance to go to the church graveyards near the Russian boarder you will see lines of graves from that time. Often the whole male side of the family would have died in one day.
With this in mind, how did this influence the personally and the physically of the Finnish people today?
